Soil Themes > Soil Erosion > Risk Assessment in Europe > Data
These data have been prepared by INRA (France) under contract to the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. It is one of the thematic applications based on the Soil Geographical Data Base of Europe at scale 1:1 Million. It should be considered as an intermediate step towards a "state-of-the-art erosion modelling at the European scale", subsequent to the work of Van der Knijff et al. (2000) and prior to the initiation of the PESERA project.
This work was coordinated by the following INRA people : Yves Le Bissonnais,
with the collaboration of Joël Daroussin, Anthony Lecour, Dominique King
, Marcel Jamagne, Jean-Jacques Lambert, and Christine Le Bas. The following
publication is available:
"Soil Erosion Risk Assessment in Europe data are owned by the European
Commission and were calculated by INRA, according to a methodology which
was developed and is owned by INRA and to which can be refered by citing
the following publication : Le Bissonnais Y., C. Montier, M. Jamagne,
J. Daroussin, D. King (2002). Mapping erosion risk for cultivated soil
in France. Catena, 46, 207-220." You may get the publication either in
the Elsevier
site: or by sending a request to the Author Yves
Le Bissonnais.
These data are offered as 5 (ESRI) GRIDS :
- orisk_annual
- orisk_summer
- orisk_winter
- orisk_autumn
- orisk_spring
and are respectively derived from the 5 (ESRI) GRIDS :
- risk_annual
- risk_summer
- risk_winter
- risk_autumn
- risk_spring
which are documented on the PESERA website, in the dictionary. In the derived data, only the (output) "RISK" attribute has been retained. The (input) USE, CRU, SLO, ERO and RF attributes have been removed because of copyright issues
Available Data:
- The data are in ESRI GRID format and are available in native format
(zipped 4.2 MB).
These data are freely available upon request; fill in the online form; after which you will be provided with instructions on how to download the data. - Download the Erosion Risk Legend File (LYR Format) and use it in ArcGIS.
Data are supplied for further research purposes only and the user must not transfer the data to Third Parties. The source of these data must be acknowledged by citation of the following sentence.
