Portrait: Luis Rodríguez Lado

Luis Rodríguez Lado graduated in 1993 in Biological Sciences at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. He started to work in the field of soil modelling in 1995 in the National Institute of Agronomic Research in Rennes, France and followed his MSc (1998) in soil pollution in the Department of Pedology and Agronomic Chemistry in the University of Santiago de Compostela. He carried out his doctoral research (PhD, 2004) on atmospheric pollution and soil chemistry at the same University.

After a Postdoctoral fellowship in Sao Paulo, Brazil, he joined the JRC in September 2005 as a Postdoctoral researcher for a period of three years in the Land Management Unit (SOIL Action) in the IES.

His interests are soil mapping and soil contamination analysis using different models. At the JRC he will study the feasibility and eventual implementation of the conversion of the large scale soil database of Italy to lower scales at European level. He will also work on developing methods for the analysis of heavy metal contamination in soils using Italian soil observations as a model. He left JRC in January 2009.
