"dominant value" rasters (22/03/04)

This library contains raster data files (ESRI GRID format) for most attributes (73 in total) of the SGDBE and PTRDB databases of the ESDB version 2 ; cell sizes are 10km x 10km and the grid is aligned with the 50km x 50km reference grid from the MARS database (reference grid is defined in the GISCO reference database in theme "lr/ci" (land resources / climate interpolated), coverage "cieu" ; the extent is also the same as the one of the MARS raster.

Raster values have been derived using the "features to raster" tool in the Spatial Analyst extension of ArcGIS, the feature layer being a shapefile created from the SGDBE geometrical database to which attributes from SGDBE and PTRDB have been linked according to the "dominant value" principle. (for here for an introduction).

All rasters are in the standard GISCO Lambert Azimuth co-ordinate system.

The 10km x 10km raster attributes correspond to the attributes represented in the maps of the Eurasian Soil Data Base Map Archive (published on http://eusoils.jrc.it) as "a collection of maps which represent all attributes which are present in the in the Soil Geographical Database of Eurasia at scale 1:1,000,000 (version 4 beta) and the PedoTransfer Rules Data Base (version 2.0). PDF, A3 format)",

"dominant STU" rasters (05/04/04)

An alternative and very compact raster dataset has been created following the "dominant STU" principle ; the dom_stu_rast is a single raster with attached to each cell the 73 attributes as described above together with the stu_dom attribute which indicates the dominant STU for that cell. The names of the attributes are the original names as indicated in second column of the file Description of raster layers.
